“This is not about making you feel guilt; this is about moving forward with our eyes open,” shared Wendy Goulet, President of Cadotte Lake Métis Nation and KAIROS Blanket Exercise facilitator during a recent Blanket Exercise with Energy Alberta.
It’s a message that resonated deeply with many participants and reflected the spirit of the experience - one rooted in awareness, understanding and a commitment to learning. As a company, we recognize that meaningful engagement begins with listening and understanding the history of the lands and communities connected to the Peace River region. Our commitment to learning and reflection is an important part of how we approach relationship-building with Indigenous Nations and Communities. Recently, members of the Energy Alberta team participated in a KAIROS Blanket Exercise led by Elder Priscilla Lalonde from Driftpile Cree Nation using a localized Peace Region script. The Blanket Exercise provided participants with an opportunity to better understand the history, experiences and resilience of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Through storytelling, historical teachings and interactive participation, the exercise guided attendees through significant moments in Canadian history.
As blankets representing the land were gradually takenaway throughout the exercise, participants gained a deeper understanding of displacement, loss and resilience The closing sharing circle encouraged reflection, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of the histories that have shaped Indigenous Peoples and Communities today.

Team members from across the organization - including President and CEO Scott Henuset - participated alongside colleagues in the experience, reflecting Energy Alberta’s commitment to learning at every level of the organization.
At the heart of Energy Alberta’s approach is the belief that respectful relationships are built through ongoing dialogue and a willingness to listen. Experiences like the Blanket Exercise are one part of a broader commitment to reconciliation, education and meaningful engagement with
Indigenous Nations and Communities connected to the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.

As the Project continues to move through the regulatory process, Energy Alberta remains committed to working collaboratively with Indigenous Nations and Communities, incorporating Indigenous knowledge into project planning and building relationships grounded in trust, respect and shared understanding.
