Guided by respect, integrity and a shared commitment to advancing reconciliation, our approach focuses on building strong, mutually beneficial relationships through ongoing dialogue, listening and collaboration. Engagement efforts are intended to be inclusive of Indigenous Nations, Bands, Communities and Métis Settlements and Groups that may be affected by the Project, ensuring Indigenous perspectives, knowledge and priorities help inform Project planning and decision-making throughout every stage of development.

A respectful understanding of Indigenous Rights, interests, values and connections to the land is fundamental to Energy Alberta’s approach to engagement and Project planning.
Indigenous Nations and Communities in the Peace River region hold unique Rights and relationships with the land that include hunting, fishing, trapping, gathering and deep cultural and spiritual connections that have existed for generations. We are committed to working collaboratively with Indigenous Nations and Communities to better understand these perspectives through ongoing dialogue, Indigenous Knowledge, traditional land and resource use and cultural heritage studies and community-led research approaches that respect Indigenous ways of knowing.
This work will help inform Project planning and impact assessment activities, including considerations related to culturally significant areas, environmental resources and stewardship, safety and the interests of future generations.

Guided by the principles of reconciliation and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), our approach emphasizes open and respectful communication, recognition of Indigenous Rights, environmental stewardship and meaningful participation in Project planning.
Through thoughtful engagement and shared understanding, we aim to support lasting relationships that contribute to Indigenous self-determination, community wellbeing and sustainable development.
We want to create opportunities for Indigenous Nations and Communities to help inform Project planning, environmental studies and regulatory submissions for the Project.
Engagement activities will be tailored to each Nation or Community’s interests, priorities and potential Project impacts, with approaches guided through relationship agreements and collaborative work plans. This may include support for Indigenous-led studies, participation in baseline study scoping and data gathering, opportunities to review draft findings and the integration of Indigenous Knowledge and perspectives into the Impact Statement and broader Project planning process.
Energy Alberta is working with local Indigenous Nations and Communities to better understand how we can support preparation for future opportunities.
As the Project advances, our focus will include building community readiness through employment and training outreach, workforce development, procurement awareness and business readiness initiatives. This includes helping community members and Indigenous-owned businesses gain access to information about future jobs, training pathways and potential contracting opportunities, while also supporting communities in understanding what to expect during construction and operations.
Our goal is to help create lasting economic and community benefits that support Indigenous participation throughout every stage of the Project.
