"I got into photography to showcase the uniqueness of our region to friends around the world. There are not many people who get to see what Northern Alberta has to offer."

“If you want to build trust, you have to start by understanding the community - its history, its culture, its connection to the land and what matters to the people who call it home.” - Gaylene Whitehead

“Ultimately, the Peace Region has a strong foundation, and there are a number of potential economic opportunities ahead. Our role as a local media business is to continue informing the community as those opportunities, projects and decisions develop.” - Lindsay Parenteau and Jonathan Babiy

Every successful project starts with people. Long before construction plans take shape, there are conversations to have, communities to connect with, information to gather and early work to be done. As Energy Alberta advances the Peace River Nuclear Power Project, people and businesses across the Peace Region are helping make that work possible. Together, we’re building a foundation of opportunities for individuals and businesses interested in working with us.

September 30 is a day to remember, reflect and listen. On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we recognize the lasting impacts of the residential school system and encourage our team and community to make space for Indigenous voices, stories and experiences. It is also an opportunity to consider what reconciliation means in the places where we live and work - not only today, but throughout the year.

On September 27, people around the world will mark World Rivers Day - an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary value of rivers and the importance of protecting them for the future. For Energy Alberta, it’s also an opportunity to celebrate a river that is central to the region where we are planning the Peace River Nuclear Power Project.

We are deeply committed to forging long-lasting, mutually beneficial partnerships with Indigenous communities. At Energy Alberta, we understand that meaningful relationships are built on trust, respect and a shared commitment to progress.

Nuclear energy is one of Canada’s safest and cleanest energy sources and is recognized globally as a critical tool in reducing greenhouse gases and fighting climate change. The use of nuclear power in clean energy production is tightly regulated to ensure the highest standards of safety.

When people think about nuclear energy, one of the first questions they often ask is: How much does it cost? It's an important question - but it's also one that deserves a broader conversation. Like any major infrastructure project, the value of nuclear energy isn't measured by upfront capital costs alone. It's measured over decades of reliable electricity generation, long-term economic benefits and the lasting impact it can have on communities, workers and businesses.

When it comes to nuclear energy, questions are an important part of the conversation. As planning for the Peace River Nuclear Power Project continues, Energy Alberta is committed to providing clear, transparent information about the Project and the role nuclear energy could play in Alberta's future.

Not long ago, communities built electricity systems to support economic growth. Today, that relationship is changing. Increasingly, the availability of reliable electricity is determining where businesses invest, where industries grow and where communities thrive. As Alberta's electricity demand continues to rise, having enough dependable power will be critical to supporting the province's long-term prosperity.

When President Wendy Goulet, Cadotte Lake Métis Nation, travelled to Ottawa for the recent Canadian Nuclear Association Conference, she wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. “I went there with an open mind and came away with a much bigger understanding of what the nuclear industry actually looks like,” she reflected afterward.

“This is not about what each province is building. We must look at this as a nation.” That message from Energy Alberta’s Head of Power System Integration, Mike Law, set the tone for discussions on the future of Nuclear Energy during the opening panel of the 45th Annual Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) Conference in Calgary.

Alberta is ready to lead in a new energy era - but only action will get us there. Nuclear power is no longer a distant idea for Western Canada. It is a real, viable solution gaining momentum at exactly the moment our economy, population and power demand are accelerating. The question is no longer whether nuclear belongs in Alberta’s future. It’s whether we will move fast enough to capture the opportunity in front of us.

Alberta has long been known for its energy sector, but as global priorities shift toward sustainability, the need for clean, renewable and secure energy has never been more urgent. With our abundance of natural resources and commitment to innovation, the province has the potential to lead in the clean energy transformation.

With the rising challenges of climate change and the growing demand for sustainable energy, we must embrace solutions that ensure long-term energy security for Canada while respecting the environment and the communities we live in.
