There is no better way to get to know a community than by spending time alongside the people who call it home. This spring and summer, the Energy Alberta team has travelled across the Peace Region, attending local events, celebrating community traditions and connecting with residents as planning continues for the Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
Not long ago, communities built electricity systems to support economic growth. Today, that relationship is changing. Increasingly, the availability of reliable electricity is determining where businesses invest, where industries grow and where communities thrive. As Alberta's electricity demand continues to rise, having enough dependable power will be critical to supporting the province's long-term prosperity.

Energy Alberta is taking an important step forward on the Peace River Nuclear Power Project with the launch of a collaborative Socio-Economic Working Group. As the Project advances through the federal impact assessment process, this working group will play a key role in enhancing the inclusion of local knowledge, priorities and expertise in how potential effects - and opportunities - are understood.

Every year on June 5, World Environment Day encourages people around the globe to consider how we can protect our environment while building a sustainable future for generations to come. As conversations about climate change, energy security and economic growth continue, one question is becoming increasingly important: how do we reduce emissions while ensuring communities and industries have access to the reliable electricity they need?
Water is one of our most important natural resources - and protecting it is central to how Energy Alberta is approaching the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project. From early planning through to operations, careful water management will be built into every step, with a clear focus on safeguarding the Peace River watershed and the communities and ecosystems that depend on it.
Energy Alberta carried out important field studies in July and August as part of the early planning work for the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project. These studies are a critical step in ensuring the Project is developed safely, responsibly and with respect for the local environment and communities.
